Unity Tampa – Historical & Cultural Festival 2019

Tampa is a city that has a rich and detailed history that spans from pirates to Cuban cigars to organized crime. It is also home to a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and ethnicities. To celebrate the backgrounds that make up Tampa Bay, the West Tampa Community Redevelopment Area is putting together Unity Tampa.

Unity Tampa is a historical and cultural festival to promote over a century of West Tampa history. The festival is a family friendly affair that is free to the public, so the whole family can enjoy.

The festival is being held at the Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park in downtown Tampa, at 1001 North Boulevard. It is happening this Sunday, September 29^th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Organizers have put together a wide array of entertainment for guests to enjoy.

Activities

There will be live performances from Caribbean Vibe Band and The Black Honkeys. Caribbean Vibe Band is (unsurprisingly) a Caribbean-inspired sound. They regularly play local venues and reggae fests. The Black Honkeys play a groovy mix of Motown, funk, soul, and old school rock & roll. Get a jump on listening to some of their hits here.

In addition to live music, there are plenty of activities that the entire family can partake in. Some of the bay area’s most poplar food trucks will be in attendance, as well as local vendors. For younger guests (or those young at heart) there will be bouncy castles. On the park’s great lawn, there will be lawn games and activities.

All of this is in addition to the Julian B. Lane Park’s usual amenities. They have a play cove and a splash pad for the little ones to beat the summer heat. For sporty guests, the park has pickleball, tennis, and basketball courts available.
