Holiday Art Shows

Holidays are a time for family and friends to gather and socialize. Fortunately, the Tampa Bay area has plenty of fun and activities for the entire family. Today, we are exploring some of the top holiday art shows in the Tampa Bay area. Lucky for us, Tampa has plenty of high-quality art museums. Not all of this holiday art shows are holiday themed, simply art shows to view with family and friends around the holidays.

Tampa Regional Artists

This year the Tampa Regional Artists are hosting a Huge Art Sale from Tuesday, November 19th through Friday, December 20th. The exhibit is themed after the holidays and the idea of the “golden oldies”. It is part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Old Hyde Park Art Center.

All of the pieces are made by local artists, with a maximum price of $150. The exhibit will comprise of original artwork, prints, cards, and more. As part of the celebration, all proceeds will go to the upkeep and renovation of the center.

Tampa Museum Of Art

The Old Hyde Park Art Center isn’t the only organization celebrating an anniversary this year. The Tampa Museum of Art is gearing up to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2020! The current exhibit is open from Friday, November 8th, 2019 through Sunday, March 15th, 2020. The exhibit, entitled “The Making of a Museum: 100 Years, 100 Works.” It is open alongside a handful of permanent collection and other rotating exhibits.

The exhibit is comprised of eight main categories. Classical Antiques, Prints and Photographs Related to Classical Antiquity, the C. Paul Jennewein Archive, Painting, Decorative Arts and Sculpture, Photography, Works on Paper, and New Media, Video, and Installation Art.

Florida Museum Of Photographic Arts

The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts has two special exhibits during the holiday season.

The first is Stephen Wilkes’ “Day To Night.” Wilkes uses 30 to 50 time lapse photos of a well-known landmark to create a single image that shows the landmark transitioning from night to day. The exhibit is open until December 31st, 2019.

Additionally, the museum is showing “Women Are Beautiful” by famous street photographer Garry Winogrand. The exhibit captures a variety of women in the 1960s and 70s, displaying the energy and attitudes of the era.
